MEP - Musicals
This is possibly one of the shortest notes for MEP ever.

I've come to the conclusion that no one can possibly have spent his or her entire life not liking
The Sound Of Music at least once!;D For general information, here's a bunch of musicals (our generation would be more familiar with cause they were made into movies) and their composers.
The Sound Of Music - Rodgers and Hammerstein
Phantom Of The Opera - Webber
Chicago - Kander
West Side Story - Bernstein
Wicked - Schwartz
&If you still really have no idea what on earth a musical (song) would be like, please search Youtube.com for things like 'Grease, Summer Nights', 'Chicago - All That Jazz', 'Mack & Mabel - When Movies Were Movies', 'Wicked: Defying Gravity', etc. Though you really should know what musicals are from like, the recent happenings of Susan Boyle (singing 'I Dreamed A Dream' from
Les Misérables) in Britain's Got Talent.

MEP - Western Opera
I can't think of anything to type here, so I'll just go on and post my notes. They're not very comprehensive, although I suspect that's all you need to know.

[Click To Enlarge]The underlined things were highlighted in our general 'Topics To Study For MEP O Level Perception Paper' handout, so I presume it's of more importance.
If I'm not mistaken, they generally won't ask you to distinguish Opera Buffa from Opera Seria from Singspiel. Even if they do, it should be sufficient information to distinguish each from the other. (: If you really can't, then go search things like 'The Magic Flute' by Mozart (Singspiel) on youtube.com, or google. The internet is your best friend!(:

MEP - Gamelan Music
:O It's a GAME? it's LAN? It's...
GAMELAN!
Basically, it originates from Indonesia. For questions asking you about the genre, it's 'Gamelan' and for region, 'Bali' or 'Java'. The rest is all there ^^ Listening to recordings is recommended.

Our MEP teacher told us more things today. Except I was kinda s p a c i n g o u t so, oops!
*OHOH. Right. For common characteristics of Gamelan music, you can also add 'Heterophonic' which is basically where the instruments play interlocking melodic motifs (elaborated, varied) and yeah. It also applies to Japanese, Chinese, and Indian music. I remember there was a 4th? but I'm not very sure which culture it was. x_x
